Commercial Real Estate Development (30 Hours)

Commercial Real Estate Development (30 Hours)
Real estate developers face an increasingly complex world. The political, environmental and financing contexts in which they must operate are changing rapidly. Gone are days when developers could unilaterally build what they wanted where they wanted without consulting others. Entrepreneurial development also is harder today, because it requires more capital to get projects started and more time to see them to completion. Qualified, well-trained developers will always be needed, though, to build real estate value by managing risk.

The course covers the characteristics of most successful developers, how companies organize themselves or leverage the abilities of others to make development happen; considerations in development of vacant land, multi-family residential units, offices, and industrial and retail projects, including feasibility, design and planning, financing, marketing, maintenance and management issues; and coming trends in development including changes in market factors, emerging demographics and lifestyles, future strategies, and social responsibility.
