Advantages Of Online Courses

Things To Know About Being Online

Some dos and don'ts.

  • Dial up doesn't work.

You MUST have a broadband Internet connection (DSL, cable or faster). If you access the Web using dial-up service over standard telephone lines, you cannot take our courses online.

  • It's not for everyone.

You'll enjoy live classes more than online ones if you like the ability to network with friends and others in the industry; or if you don't use (or don't like to use!) computers regularly; or if you're not diligent enough to return and complete an online course over time.

  • You can’t return them.

We're sorry, but we do not provide any refunds, credits or exchanges for online courses under any circumstances. In choosing online courses, you agree to be bound by these rules, and also agree to be bound by any other rules or limitations imposed by third-party course providers.

  • Diligence counts.

Unless you're diligent and disciplined about working on your course, time flies by quickly. You can forget vital knowledge. We strongly suggest you enroll in only one course at a time, and work at it regularly.

  • Hop in and hop out.

You can stop and start in your online courses at any time. The course software "remembers" where you were last. You can take your courses from wherever you can get online. Everything needed is online. There is NO accompanying textbook or study guide.

  • There are no shortcuts.

Each course is approved for a specific number of hours. In most cases, these are "seat time" hours. So if the course you choose is approved for "X" hours, it usually means you'll spend "X" hours in front of your computer screen and no less.

  • Final exams cannot be taken online.

In certain subjects - specifically Sales License Courses, Broker License Courses, and Appraisal Certification Courses (but NOT real estate continuing education or appraisal re-certification) - an exam is required. Exams cannot be taken online. Pennsylvania requires that exams be taken under the watchful supervision of a proctor. A proctor is a neutral observer who has no ties or obligations to you. Once you complete an online course for which an exam is required, call Polley Associates to discuss scheduling your test. Polley can help arrange for a proctor and a suitable test location. Testing is often scheduled on weekdays during customary business hours. Online courses that require an exam are considered completed only after a passing grade is received on the exam.
