| To become a licensed broker in
Pennsylvania one must:
Broker
education requirements
In addition to being a high school
graduate, applicants must have earned
16 credits (240 hours) of real estate
education.
- A
candidate may not apply credits
used to qualify for the
salesperson’s examination (for
example, from the Pre-License
courses Real Estate
Fundamentals or Real Estate
Practice) toward
fulfillment of the broker
education requirement.
- College degrees do not count
toward this requirement unless the
major is real estate, or course
work equivalent to a major in real
estate, or a juris doctor degree.
- Due to recent changes promulgated by the Pennsylvania Real Estate Commission, candidates for a Pennsylvania Broker’s License
must take two
of their required 16 course credits in a Commission-developed Real Estate Office
Management course, and two more of the
required 16 in a
Commission-developed
Real Estate

- At
least six of the remaining 12
credits shall be in three or more
of the Commission-developed
courses listed in this paragraph: Real
Estate Law,
Non-Residential Property
Management, Real Estate Finance,
Real Estate Sales, Real
Estate Investment,
Residential Construction,
Real Estate Office Management,
Valuation of Residential
Property, Residential Property
Management,
or Valuation of
Income-Producing Property.
- The
remaining six credits shall be in
real estate courses, but not
necessarily those listed in the
above paragraph.
Broker
experience requirements
Applicants must have completed 3
years as a licensed salesperson AND
accumulate 200 points.
