About the Course
This is a two-hour course for appraisal recertification that covers required
topics of the Pennsylvania Real Estate Appraisers Act and the Rules and
Regulations of the PA State Board of Certified Appraisers.
This course starts with a quick quiz covering a number of topics to see if
participants are aware of the required day-to-day compliance with Pennsylvania
appraisal laws. It always sparks some heated discussion! The second part of the
course emphasizes changes to the laws during the past two years, and offers a
refresher on common provisions that are most often violated by certified PA
appraisers; these, again, often generate heated discussion. The remaining time
is spent reviewing other provisions of the Act, and Rules and Regulations. Each
participant receives copies of both documents as a current guide and future
reference source.
About Recertification
All Pennsylvania certified appraisers must participate in twenty-eight (28)
hours of continuing education to renew their certification by the 30th of June
in each odd-numbered year. The current renewal cycle is for 2003-2005.
The Rules and Regulations of the PA State Board of Certified Appraisers
mandate that nine (9) of the 28 hours must be in required topics. Of the
9 hours in required topics, two (2) hours must cover the Pennsylvania Real
Estate Appraisers Act and the Rules and Regulations of the PA State Board of
Certified Appraisers; and the remaining 7 hours must cover updated information
on the Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice.
Nineteen (19) other hours of appraiser continuing education may be fulfilled
with electives approved by the PA State Board of Certified Appraisers.
