Polley's online option:
Web-based pre-license courses

Dec. 3, 2007

There are two ways to get a real estate career education from Polley Associates. By being in a classroom. Or by being online.

If your brokerage's recruits decide to take classes in person, they’ll join the majority of our students at one of 11 convenient facilities across Pennsylvania.

If they decide to take classes online, they can work from their home, or office, or even a local public library ... anywhere a high-speed Internet connection is available. A small but growing number of our students choose the online option.

Each has advantages. Here’s a quick review.

Schedule flexibility. Advantage: Online.
Your recruits are busy people. They're already in a job, or more than one, or working hard to get one. They’ve got a home life, and other occasional chores, and personal interests. It may be tough to add more to the mix.

Online education makes it easier. Students can get onto the Web, sign into a course, and work at it for as long or as little as they like. Being online gives them the ability to fit real estate career education into their lifestyle.

Live help. Advantage: Classroom.
Most of our instructors have decades of experience in the real estate business. Many still actively work as sales people, associate brokers or brokers. Some are specialists in certain geographic areas, or types of real estate, or financing, or marketing. All of them, every single one, want to see your recruits succeed.

Being in a classroom gives students access to knowledge they can’t get elsewhere. Our instructors are there to help them learn, and make material easily understood. Have a question? They can ask it. Don’t understand a concept? They can get it repeated, or fleshed out in more detail.

Custom comfort. Advantage: Online.
Some people are comfortable learning only when the TV is on in the background or their favorite tunes are playing. (See, we know your recruits as well as you do!) Some folks like to lie flat, some want to lounge back with their feet up, some even walk around while they study.
Students can probably do all of that, and maybe other things too, if they take courses online. We won’t let it happen in a classroom.

Structured learning. Advantage: Classroom.
Unlike the students we’ve described above, some people benefit from the structure, flow and organization of instructor-led learning. It keeps them on track. They learn in an orderly fashion. They enjoy interacting with other students. For them, a classroom feels natural.

Technology Is Their Thing. Advantage: Online.
Your youngest recruits are T-1 wired and next-gen wireless. They own a laptop, a desktop, a PDA, a GPS, a 3G cell phone, and a digicam. They text faster than you talk. They WANT to be online.

Quicker finish. Advantage: Classroom.
Many people think they’ll finish their education faster if they control their own time by going online. We thought so too, at first. But after a few years, we find most online students actually take a little longer than those in a classroom, even though the material covered is identical. The reason? As far as we can tell, it’s because online learners start and stop more frequently. Which is fine ... that’s why some are online anyway.
