Continuing Education Requirements
To renew a real estate sales or broker license,
licensees must obtain 14 hours of continuing education (CE).
Brokers, associate brokers, and salespersons seeking to
renew their licenses are required to complete CE. They may take all 14 hours
in elective courses of their choosing.
New licensees are exempt from the CE requirement if their license
is issued after Dec. 1 of the year preceding the renewal deadline.
Licensees who have never taken continuing
education since receiving their license, or who are taking
continuing education for the first time - and who are not
exempt as described above - must heed the directive in the box
below.
An IMPORTANT NOTICE regarding continuing education for real
estate salespeople licensed after Dec. 1, 2009.
The Pennsylvania State Real Estate Commission now requires
special post-license continuing education for persons who received real estate sales licenses
AFTER Dec. 1, 2009, or any licensees who have not
yet taken an initial 14 hours of continuing education.
- These two, 7-hour courses,
labeled as "2012 CE: Required General" and "2012
CE: Required
Residential" currently
are available live in several classroom
locations as well as online.
All other licensees must complete continuing
education by May 31, 2012, for the 2010-2012 license renewal period, but are not required to take the special
post-license courses.

Ninety percent of live classroom
CE sessions must be attended
for course credit. One hundred percent of online
CE sessions must
be completed for course credit. The Commission requires a photo ID
for attendance verification in live classroom settings. Failure to
comply can void course approval.
If your license is in
escrow, 14 hours of CE must be taken
before activating the license.
You have two options to fulfill the requirement:
- Option 1: Take any live
or online
elective MCE courses (totaling 14 hours) during the renewal
period;
- Option 2: Take any Broker
Elective Course of 15 or 30 hours.
